Liquor Bowl: Part 3 - The Manhattan Tea Party

If you don't understand the significance of Sunday's game, and furthermore, are unaware of the Giants/Patriots rivalry and why such a rivalry exists, I suggest taking a look at the video below.  Though the play that is shown is in itself, quite possibly, one of the greatest plays of all time, it was also the deciding play that gave the New York Giants the opportunity to score the Super Bowl-winning touchdown and upset the undefeated New England Patriots.

Now that we're on the same page, I thought it would be fun to create a drink, a drink that incorporates both the Giants and the Patriots, and even more so, the historical aspect from their respective cities.  It's a drink I'd like to call, "The Manhattan Tea Party."

The Manhattan Tea Party

Drink Type: Cocktail

Ingredients:
2 oz. rye whiskey
2 oz. sweet tea
1/2 oz. sweet vermouth
lemon zest for garnish (optional)

Instructions:
Pour the ingredients into a shaker with ice cubes.  Shake well.  Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.  Garnish with a lemon zest.

Description:
It's definitely different to say the least.  Think of it as your typical Manhattan martini, just on the sweeter side.  The substitution of sweet tea for bitters gives this drink a more "therapeutic" taste .  I wouldn't say that the drink is refreshing, but more so, if anything, calming.
