Liquor Bowl: Part 1 - The Absolute Jolly New York Giant

With Super Bowl XLVI just days upon us, I found it necessary to dedicate my first post on On The Rocks... to this special day.  With that being said, I just so happen to be a die-hard New York Giants fan, so it should come as no surprise that I take great pride in what is to be featured on this week's post, and, as I am a man of my word, I assure you, I will not let you down.

For much of the U.S., they are referring to Sunday's game as "The Redemption Game," largely because of what happened just four years ago when the New England Patriots and New York Giants met in Super Bowl XLII.  But for us "G-Men", we like to call Sunday's game, "The Rematch."

So, in spite of all the history and all the glory that is the New York Giants and the New England Patriots, I found it proper to introduce two different drinks and one creation.  A sort of Liquor-Bowl.  I bring to you, Part One.

The Absolute Jolly New York Giant

 

Drink Type: Cocktail

Ingredients:

2 part(s) Absolut Ruby Red Vodka

1/2 part(s) Maraschino Liqueur

1/4 oz. Pomegranate Juice

1/2 part(s) Lemon Juice

Instructions:

Shake and strain into a martini glass over a brandied cherry, or over ice into a rocks glass

Description:

This drink, which is exclusive amongst New York Giants fans and is known as the team's premiere mixed beverage.  It's scent of grapefruit is as clear as the glass encompassing the drink, but when sipped, it's hardly over-the-top.  The maraschino liqueur elicits a very distinct cherry flavor and the pomegranate and lemon juice work exceptionally well in blending with the sweet and tart flavor of the grapefruit.  Overall, it's a refreshing cocktail and suits those "relaxing on the backyard hammock" kind of days.
